New Battery Incentive Means Real Savings for NSW Small and Medium Businesses
If you run a small or medium business (SME) in NSW, power bills are top of mind. Thankfully, for the very first time, a new NSW Government incentive called BESS4 now gives small and medium businesses access to upfront battery discounts. It's part of the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS), and it's designed to help businesses install a right-sized battery system that actually makes a dent in energy bills.
Why the BESS4 battery rebate matters for your bottom line
Peak demand charges are the extra cost you pay when your energy use spikes at high-demand times. For many NSW SMEs, they're one of the biggest hidden costs on the power bill. But battery storage is one way to store cheaper energy and draw on it during expensive peak periods, instead of paying premium rates.
Until now, battery rebates have mostly gone to households. BESS4 changes that for small and medium businesses, opening the door to a substantial upfront discount on a 20–200 kWh battery system, sized to reduce peak demand exposure.
What you get with the BESS4 incentive
- Upfront savings on a battery sized for your business
- The option to stack incentives, including Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) for solar PV up to 100 kW installed alongside your battery, and the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) if you're bundling in wider efficiency upgrades
Getting your business battery-ready for summer
With longer days and rising cooling costs on the way, now is the time to check whether your business qualifies for BESS4. A right-sized battery installed ahead of summer means you're better placed to manage demand spikes when they matter most, rather than scrambling once the heat - and the bills - arrive.
Nectr's team can help you work through navigating the process, including CEC-approved battery selection, warranty compliance and solar system sizing. Nectr can also identify other rebates that might stack with BESS4, and scope out whether a battery makes sense for your site.
Note: Eligible customers should seek independent advice to confirm which incentive combinations apply to their specific circumstances.
