Grassroots to Greatness: Powering Pathways for Western Sydney’s Junior Rugby League Stars
Saturday 13 June, more than 1,500 young rugby league hopefuls will lace up their boots and take to the field at Windsor Sporting Complex for the Panthers Juniors U5-U7 Cubs Festival, chasing the dream of NRL stardom.
Panthers Juniors is the largest junior rugby league development program in the Southern Hemisphere, with more than 660 teams from 22 clubs across Western Sydney. The program includes an impressive 9,858 young boys and girls who proudly wear their club jersey for a great game of footy.
The Panthers Juniors system is regarded as one of the best in the NRL, having produced some of the biggest names in the game, including Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo, Brian To'o, Stephen Crichton and Taylan May.
Behind the scenes, helping power the pathway for the next era of NRL talent is Australian energy retailer Nectr, a proud sponsor of the Panthers Juniors program. For Nectr, involvement in the Panthers Juniors U5-U7 Cubs Festival further deepens its relationship with the Penrith Panthers.
Supporting the Penrith Panthers Pathway
In 2023, Nectr’s solar partners delivered a solar installation at the Penrith Panthers Rugby League Academy. This year, the Panthers announced Nectr as the naming sponsor. Today, the Academy generates approximately $20,000 in energy savings, helping power the Panthers staff, trainers and players behind the scenes.
In 2026, Nectr delivered another project for The Panthers Group, installing a commercial solar energy solution for the Pullman Hotel and Western Sydney Convention Centre in Penrith. The installation will provide 172kW of capacity, generate approximately 236MWh of renewable energy per year and deliver estimated energy savings of around $72,000 per year.
For Nectr, the partnership with the Penrith Panthers reflects a shared commitment to investing in communities, creating opportunities and supporting long-term growth. Just as the Panthers focus on developing local talent through strong grassroots foundations, Nectr works closely with Australian households and businesses to help build a more sustainable future through smarter energy solutions.
