Starting 1 November 2024, NSW residents can benefit from a new government rebate designed to reduce the cost of installing solar batteries. The rebate aims to encourage more households to adopt renewable energy and contribute to lowering peak electricity demand. The program offers up to $2,400 for battery installations. Plus, there are additional incentives for those joining Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), where battery owners can earn extra rebates by sharing their stored energy.

Eligibility Criteria Include

To qualify for the NSW Battery Rebate, you must meet the following requirements:

Home Ownership & Location

The program is available to NSW homeowners only. You must have an existing solar system or be purchasing one along with the battery.

Battery System Requirements

Eligible batteries must have a storage capacity between 2 kWh and 28 kWh and be installed by a certified installer. Batteries connected to a VPP can qualify for additional incentives, provided they meet specific warranty and operational standards.

Certified Installer

Installations must be completed by an installer certified by the program to ensure safety and compliance.

Warranty Standards

The battery should include a 10-year warranty, ensuring at least 70% capacity retention and must adhere to ambient temperature and usage guidelines.

VPP Participation

If you choose to join a VPP, the battery must meet extra standards and maintain at least 6 years on the warranty for additional rebates.

NSW rebates available

Up to $2,400 towards up-front installation costs of a battery for homes and businesses with existing solar, depending on the size of the battery.

Up to $400 for connecting your household or business battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). This incentive is available twice, a minimum of 3 years apart.
