Energy Regulation Changes - July 1 2026

New energy regulations coming into effect on 1 July 2026 will strengthen protections for customers, making energy services fairer and clearer, particularly for those who need additional assistance.

What’s changing?
Changes to when certain fees can be charged

From 1 July 2026, new regulations restrict when certain fees can be charged.

Customers experiencing hardship, payment difficulties, or family violence

We won’t charge any fees, except for distributor charges passed through to you. This includes:

  • Card payment fees
  • Payment processing fees
  • Late payment fees
  • Paper bill fees
All customers

We won’t charge the following fees unless they are distributor charges passed through to you:

  • Meter reading fees when starting or ending a contract
  • Connection or disconnection fees
  • Account set-up fees when entering a new contract
  • Any fee that exceeds a reasonable estimate of the cost of providing the service
Changes to when prices and feed-in tariffs can be updated

From 1 July 2026, new regulations limit how often we can increase your prices or reduce your feed-in tariff.

Variable rates

Changes can only be made once each year, in July.

Fixed rates

Changes no more than once every 12 months from your contract start date.

Updates to notice periods for pricing changes

From 1 July 2026, updated notice requirements apply to both energy prices and feed-in tariffs. If your rates increase or your feed-in tariff decreases, we’ll provide notice:

Variable rates

At least 5 business days before the change.

Fixed rates

At least 20 business days before the change.

If your rates decrease or your feed-in tariff increases, we’ll notify you as soon as practicable, and no later than your next bill.

What this means for you

You don’t need to take any action. These changes are designed to ensure:

  • Greater protection from unnecessary fees
  • More certainty about when prices can change
  • Improved transparency and communication

We are working to update our terms and conditions to reflect these changes and will continue to keep you informed once this is complete.
