NSW Launches $557 Million Home Energy Saver Program: Here’s What It Means for Your Home

Great news for NSW homeowners, landlords and renters looking to reduce their energy bills.

The NSW Government has announced a new $557 million Home Energy Saver Program, making it more affordable for eligible households to invest in rooftop solar, home batteries and energy-efficient upgrades.

With energy costs continuing to rise, this initiative will help more Australians access clean energy solutions, lower their electricity bills and take greater control of their energy future.

What’s Included?

The new program offers financial support to make solar and battery installation more accessible.

Interest-Free Loans

Available now, eligible NSW homeowners and landlords can access:

  • Interest-free loans of up to $15,000 per property
  • Available to households with a combined annual income of $210,000 or less
  • Can be used to install rooftop solar, battery storage and other eligible energy upgrades

Upfront Discounts

From later in 2026, eligible households may also receive:

  • Up to $4,000 in upfront discounts
  • Available for eligible homeowners and renters who hold an eligible concession card or have a household income of $80,000 or less

This additional support will help more Australians—including renters and lower-income households—benefit from renewable energy.

Why This Matters

Australia already leads the world in rooftop solar adoption, with more than 4.3 million homes and businesses generating their own clean energy. More than 500,000 households have also installed battery storage to maximise their solar investment.

Programs like the NSW Home Energy Saver initiative are designed to help even more households enjoy the benefits of renewable energy by reducing the upfront cost of installation.

For homeowners, this means:

  • Lower electricity bills
  • Greater energy independence
  • Protection against rising energy prices
  • Reduced carbon emissions
  • Increased property value

For landlords, installing solar can make rental properties more attractive while helping tenants reduce their energy costs.

Quality You Can Trust

An important feature of the program is its focus on quality and consumer protection.

Eligible installations must use:

  • Clean Energy Council Approved Products
  • SAA-accredited installers
  • New Energy Tech Approved Sellers

These requirements help ensure every installation is safe, reliable and built to perform for years to come.
